What exactly is Larry doing ...

Finally we have some answers :) A letter I rec'd today gives some general info on the mission Larry is involved with.

He is attached to Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) Anbar which is part of the II Marine Expeditionary Force. The team is made up of 30 people, 3 military and 27 civilians. Their job is to build capacity and stability in the region to help the Iraqi people govern themselves. Since this is something they have no experience in, the team goes out into the local areas to teach them in a number of areas such as elections, government, electricity, oil, economics, business development, and rail road. Larrys actual job is a liaison between PRT and local Civil Affairs Group (CAG). He attends all security briefings and reports that back to PRT.

Most of the units there are 1/2 Marines and 1/2 Army working together; about 1000 in all. In addition there is a division of Iraqi Army. Apparently the security is pretty good although he says that situational awareness is imperative and you can never let your guard down. In closing he says that a picture is worth 1000 words and he will send some soon. That's long overdue ... wouldn't you agree?

So now we know ....
