His exact words were, "I am doing swell and it's pretty safe here". He sounds so good and rested. They all had a good nights sleep last night for the first time in days. That will do wonders for your spirits.
He is in Ramadi which according to my technical calculations is about 80 miles west of Baghdad. The conditions seem to be quite pleasing. He and one other soldier are sharing a two man trailer. It has 2 bedrooms, a living area, and bathroom. This is quite an improvement from the last deployment where they had to walk 1/4 mile (in full battle gear) to the bathrooms that were shared by all. He says it's dirty but he is already remodeling.
Soon I will be receiving a list of household items that he'll need to make this his home for the next 11 months. If you know Larry, he likes a nice place to come home to so he'll have it all spiffed up in no time. He is shopping (at the PX's) for a frig, lamp, table and chair, and maybe a microwave. Apparently there is only beds, and old desk that is falling apart, and a locker that he is going to fasten to the wall so that it will stand alone.
The work conditions are great. A nice office with his own desk. He is hoping to have a computer soon but does not as of today. It is air conditioned which is nice on toasty days like today; 110-115 degrees.
As on most of the bases, the mess hall is good. He has no complaints about the food. He says you can have almost anything you could want. If things go as he thinks they will, he will be in this location for the duration of his deployment. That is always nice so that you don't have to pack and move around constantly like many of the soldiers do.
Until next time ... thank you for your continued prayers :) Larry sends his gratitude and love everyone we know.
